Our school has achieved, and is proud to maintain, the Artsmark Gold status, which recognises the quality of our art curriculum.
Our exciting Art and Design curriculum offers children the opportunity to develop their visual awareness and to work creatively and imaginatively using a variety of skills, techniques and materials. We ensure that the children are able to explore works of art from a variety of periods and cultures, and that artists from the past and present are explored making references to contemporary craftspeople.
It is our belief that children should understand the links between art and design and other subjects, therefore art is taught using an integrated topic based approach. Lessons are planned around an overall theme and are taught in conjunction with other subject areas, giving the children a wider understanding of the historical and social context of their art studies. During the summer term, Art and Design plays a major role in the annual Whole School Project, during which a wide variety of activities are always on offer. In 2016, the ceramic tile workshops, based around the theme of ‘Oceans and Seas,’ were enjoyed by every member of the school community.
Throughout 2016, children in Key Stage 2 have participated in a variety of community projects and have created instillations which have been exhibited both locally and at Norwich Cathedral. We continue to maintain close links with the high school, offering the children opportunities to work in collaboration with specialist staff; to participate in exciting workshops and to attend the GCSE art exhibition during the summer term.
